History

The historic event for the Indonesian gynecological endoscopy occurred in Bali. On July 1, 2000 almost 60 endoscopic practitioners and experts from all over Indonesia witnessed and signed the engraved plate signifying the founding of the Indonesian Gynecological Endoscopy Society. Even the endoscopic expert from Belgium, Professor Koninckx, had the opportunity to witness this very special occasion.

The obstetrician-gynecologists who played the major role in giving birth to IGES, Dr. Wachyu Hadisaputra, was unable to conceal his euphoria. This is because all his hard work for the last two months, supported by the Indonesian Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ISOG or POGI) Task-Force for Endoscopy and his secretary, Mrs Ida, at last came to be fulfilled satisfactorily.

The organization which is affiliated to the International Society for Gynecological Endoscopy (ISGE) found its form in Bali at Pre-Congress of ISOG (KOGI) 2000 meeting. The election of Dr. Wachyu Hadisaputra as the only candidate brings with it the obligation to set up the organization and its committees which are expected to work hard in order to gain the worldwide recognition of the existence of gynecologic endoscopy in Indonesia.

With the establishment of the IGES, it seems that Indonesia will follow Singapore in the technological advances of endoscopy. It also appears that those who share a common interest in endoscopy in Indonesia place their hope enormously on Dr. Wachyu Hadisaputra, (Obstetrician and Gynecologist, Consultant for Fertility and Reproductive Endocrinology), the 1983 alumnus of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Indonesia, Jakarta.
